Crown cleaning & deadwooding refers to the removal of dying or diseased wood and dead limbs from the crown (upper canopy) of the tree or limbs which cross rub & overly. It also includes attention to snags or re pruning of branch stubs, unwanted climbing plants & debris.
Pollarding is a method of pruning that keeps trees and shrubs smaller than they would naturally grow. It is normally started once a tree or shrub reaches a certain height, and annual pollarding will restrict the plant to that height.

Reducing large overgrown hedges. Sometimes hedges are left to do their own thing, often out growing the space intended for them. The species making up a hedge are mainly trees and shrubs and as such want to grow to their mature height.
In general, when pruning informal hedges, remove misplaced shoots and cut back the hedge to its required size. Use secateurs or loppers where practical, especially if the hedge has large evergreen leaves, to avoid unsightly leaf damage.
